Balancing life, this is a tough one, I’ve struggled with this a lot. Minus kids, it seemed easier. Life is about you. Add any thing in that you are responsible for the well-being of, and it can get messy fast.
When I first had my son, I was a new nurse as well. Which every new nurse knows what happens when you first start working, your chances of working days are .0005%. So, I was a new mom, a new nurse, and I was working NIGHTS!
It was literally and figuratively a very dark time in my life. I was tired 100% of the time, I never knew what day it was or if it was day. I did not eat well. Any one who has “been there done that” knows that at 3am carbs are your BFF. Your body craves that junk, yes junk! I was learning what it meant to care for this precious child and also learning how to take care of 7-8 sick people as well. And not taking care of myself.
The fitness-life scale was pretty much vertical. Fitness/self care of any type was not a priority.
It wasn’t a priority until I made it one.
I had to retrain my mind, my body, my spirit to crave exercise again.
It was a long road. An almost embarrasingly long road. I think about those “naps” when I would wake up at noon and feed my son. I would hold on to his little head while my eye mask still concealed to my brain it was night. After 6 months of the dreaded night shift, I moved to days. I still felt like I was in a fog, this never ending tunnel of confusion that had my mind and body spinning. My hormones where all over the place and no where they needed to be!
I knew in my heart that unhealthy wasn’t an option. I wouldn’t be any good to my son or any one else for that matter, including myself.
I literally ran out of the funk. I have been running since my prepubescent years, so I decided a marathon was the surefire way to show the world I was back.
The Simple Gym was on the back burner, scratch that, it wasn’t even in the kitchen for a long time! When I started TSG I was childless and working myself in to becoming a RN.
Now, being a full time mom, I knew I needed to share again! Share the simple truth that you can make time for yourself. Share with others that “simple” can really kick your butt, in a good way! I want to help you get focused, prioritize, and realize you can feel amazing even if you have no equipment!
There are no titles you have to fall under to practice these moves, all you have to be is a human looking to flourish!
