Your brain. It’s amazing to say the least. Humans have such a high functioning brain that we can even think about thinking about thinking…how amazing it that! To keep it functioning at it’s tip top level, I’ve listed 5 foods that your brain adores.
Olive oil: Olive oil is a wonderful fat that you can easily add to your diet. According to Dr. Axe, olive oil is packed with powerful antioxidants known as polyphenols. These polyphenols have been found to fight the proteins that can start Alzheimer’s. I love making this super easy salad. It is only 4 ingredients. I use kale as my base and chop it. Then I add olive oil, lemon juice, and sea salt. If you want to get real fancy you can add shredded cheese on top. It’s amazing.
Avocados: If there are avocados in my house, they don’t last long. These little guys get gobbled up in just about every meal. They are made of the good monosaturated fats and help keep you feeling full. Avocados are high in vitamin K, folate (which helps keep blood thin, so it prevents clots) vitamin B, and vitamin C. They are also high in protein and low in sugar! Some times I eat them straight out of the shell or I add them to eggs and pretty much any thing.
Blueberries: If it has a deep strong color, it’s probably great for you. Blueberries are high in gallic acid, which helps fight off degeneration and stressors. Their color should let you know that they are full of antioxidants. I usually just grab a handful or add them to paleo pancakes. They make a great on-the-go snack.
Walnuts: I listened to a lecture once and the speaker talked about walnuts and how they kind of look like tiny brains. How amazing nature is that it would point us to something that is incredibly good for our cognition! A hand full of walnuts can help you stay more alert. So if you get those 4:00pm blues, reach for the walnuts! They also are full of all sorts of goodness that can prevent Alzheimer’s.
Eggs: Let’s start appreciating eggs again for their amazing abilities.
Yolks contain large amounts of choline, which helps in fetal brain development for pregnant women. It also breaks down bethane, a chemical that produces hormones related to happiness. Eggs can make you happy! Dr. Axe
So go home and make a couple eggs, with some olive oil drizzled on top, with avocados, and a bowl of blue berries and walnuts for dessert! Done. Happy brain, happy you!
