This past week my family and I went on a trip. It was super fun, but to be honest, the long plane rides had me a little stressed. I was worried about bad food choices and not being able to get up and stretch my legs enough. I knew I would need to take some small essentials with me to help make the trip easier. These were my top 5 things to really make sure were priority for the trip too!
Healthy snacks– We only took carry on bags, so we had little room for any thing extra. But we did stuff our bag with healthy bars and homemade paleo pancakes (my son is crazy for them!) I also grabbed a few apples and nut snacks at the store. This allowed us to say “no thank you” to the pretzels and canola oil laced peanuts (I know!) that were offered on the plane. Then when we landed for our connecting flight, we found a great restaurant that served breakfast all day, so omelettes with broccoli all around!
Water Bottle-This one way may be super obvious. I will add though that when you have limited room in your carry-on luggage this collapsable water bottle from HydaPak was amazing. It becomes super small for storage, but can hold 32oz. It really was a life saver.
Green Packs-Having a reliable green pack to put in your water is pretty much essential. Traveling can disrupt your immune system, so providing your body with a good source of vegetables and super foods will definitely combat any potential for illness. The one I absolutely love is Organifi. I’ve tried a lot of green drinks and I’m telling you this one is the best! It is loaded with goodness like coconut, ashwagandha, spirulina, chlorella and more!
Mobility ball-I knew that we would be going on hikes and getting some elevation gain that my legs were not used to. So I made sure that I had room for a lacrosse ball. It was small enough to fit in to our bag. It is such a great tool to really get in to hard to stretch places like hips and shoulders.
Visit grocery stores-We were lucky enough to be staying in a small house. It had a full kitchen (which I also highly recommend when traveling). So we took advantage of that most nights, and made easy meals. Visiting a grocery store will limit how much food you eat at restaurants and offer you healthier options. I tend to like to be in control of my food, which I don’t think is a bad thing, but when traveling you have to keep that in mind. Visiting local grocery stores is always fun for me, makes me feel local!
